"Will AI Replace Developers?"
This question appears in my feed almost every day.
But history tells us something interesting:
1) When engines were invented, horse-drawn and bullock carts gradually disappeared from daily transportation. Transportation didn't die, people adapted. Cart drivers learned to drive vehicles, mechanics learned to maintain engines, and entirely new industries emerged.
2) When computers became common, typewriters became obsolete. Typists weren't erased from the workforce. Many learned word processing, digital documentation, and office software, becoming even more productive.
3) Film cameras were replaced by digital cameras. Professional photographers who embraced the technology continued to thrive, while those who refused to adapt struggled.
4) Banks introduced ATMs, and many feared that bank employees would lose their jobs. Instead, their roles evolved toward customer service, financial consulting, and relationship management.
5) E-commerce transformed retail. Many traditional businesses that adapted to online platforms expanded their reach far beyond their local markets.
Now we are facing another transformation:
=> Artificial Intelligence.
Will AI automate some programming tasks?
=> Absolutely.
Will it change how developers work?
=>Without a doubt.
But throughout history, technology has rarely replaced people who continuously learn. It usually replaces old ways of working.
The developers who understand AI, learn how to use it effectively, and combine it with problem-solving, creativity, communication, and business understanding will remain valuable.
The question is not:
ā "Will AI replace developers?"
The better question is:
ā
"How can developers use AI to become more effective than ever before?"
Technology changes. Skills evolve. Learning never stops.
Don't fear the change. Upgrade with it.
